SIP Resources * energy efficient wall and roof panels * structural insulated panel construction

SIP panels

Q. What happens if I use SIPs and there is a fire?

A. If the structure should catch fire, SIP’s does not have air within the cores of it’s insulation so fire cannot spread up the wall cavity. An important element to fire safety is to protect the underlying structure with fifteen-minute thermal barriers.

Q. How is SIPs energy efficient?

A. SIPs design reduces air leakage into and out of the house. This reduction means you’ll have to use less energy to heat or cool your building. The reduction also means you can install smaller heating and cooling units saving you money on energy bills.

Q. What makes a SIPs home special?

A. With a SIPs home, the design of the insulation makes for a more energy efficient home. The rigid insulation makes a quieter and stronger home. Fewer drafts than traditional fiberglass insulation and less noise allows you to come home to a more comfortable environment.

Q. How strong are SIPs?

A. SIPs have been able to withstand natural disasters such as Hurricane Andrew and earthquakes such as the one in Kobe, Japan. SIPs strongly built structure is similar to that of a steel I-beam providing you with a strong, durable building.

Q. Is SIPs more expensive than the others?

A. With the money you save on energy bills as well as the savings from the shortened time length of construction, the cost of building with SIPs will generally average to about the same cost as building with the conventional wood frame.

Q. Why is ventilation important?
A. In many areas, ventilation is a code requirement. Beyond that reason, health would be a major concern. Proper ventilation systems will ensure fresh air is circulated through the building while stale air is forced outside. Proper ventilation will help maintain a better quality of air, reducing the health risk associated with toxins that can buildup in the air without proper circulation and ventilation.
